The focus of my work is concentrated on activities around water and the patterns and distortions that are created when people pass through it be it a tidal river or outdoor pool. The close proximity of Tooting Bec Lido and the tidal Thames enables me to make regular visits providing stimulus and inspiration for fresh ideas. These are reinforced by drawing and photography. The images are arrived at through a process of editing and composting, an approach that provides a constant challenge but one that satisfies a constant creative need. I construct images in layers, adding and subtracting details at each stage and work on several paintings at once, like a production line. Each painting can lead and influence the next. The approach is far from traditional and expresses an ability to change and alter things as the image emerges from the paper and is more like oil painting |
